چکیده

Background Cardiac involvement is a major risk factor for sudden death in patients with systemic sarcoidosis. Pathologically, cardiac sarcoid lesions can be classified as early (mainly lymphocytic, similar to lymphocytic myocarditis), intermediate (active granulomatous), and late phase (primarily scar). These pathological processes can affect the myocardial extracellular space volume (ECV) in cardiac sarcoid. We hypothesize that quantitative measurement of ECV using a T1 mapping technique with CMR may yield new insights for the assessment of cardiac sarcoid.

Quantitative assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis in II-type diabetes mellitus patients using T1 mapping technique: preliminary data

Background In diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), ventricular remodelling consists in a progressive impairment of myocardial contraction (evolving from diastolic to combined diastolicsystolic dysfunction) occurring regardless of ischemic heart disease, hypertension or other macrovascular complications, which ultimately leads to heart failure. Early stages of DCM are asymptomatic and characterised by...

Cardiac T1 mapping in congenital heart disease: bolus versus infusion protocol for measurement of myocardial extracellular volume

Background Measurement of myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV) with T1 mapping cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) before and after the application of a gadolinium-based extracellular contrast agent enables the assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis. The equilibrium between blood and myocardium contrast concentration required for ECV measurements can be achieved with a primed contrast...

Measuring the expansion of myocardial extracellular volume using quantitative perfusion imaging: Validation with T1 mapping and simultaneous 18FDG-PET in patients after acute myocardial infarction

Background Expansion of myocardial extracellular volume (ECV) as detected by native and post contrast T1 mapping has been associated with different types of cardiomyopathy. We hypothesize that fully quantitative evaluation of MR perfusion imaging can localize and quantify edematous ECV expansion after acute coronary events with sensitivity equivalent to ECV measurements based on T1 mapping or t...

Non-invasive measurement of myocardial extracellular volume using T1 mapping as a novel biomarker of diffuse fibrosis in dilated cardiomyopathy

Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is frequently observed in histologies of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). T1-mapping techniques have the potential to measure fibrosis quantitatively and therefore provide novel cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) insights into myocardial tissue characterization beyond the presently employed late gadolinium enhanced (LGE) techniques. Fibrosis results in expansio...

T1 mapping for myocardial extracellular volume measurement by cardiovascular magnetic resonance: bolus only vs primed infusion technique

Background Myocardial ECV can be measured using T1 mapping before and after contrast if the contrast agent distribution between blood:myocardial is at equilibrium. Equilibrium distribution can be achieved with a primed contrast infusion (EQ-CMR), or may be approximated by the dynamic equilibration achieved by delayed post bolus measurement. This bolus only approach is highly attractive but curr...
